Founding Designer
Jennifer Duncan began her professional journey in design, quite by accident, in 1990. Working in a beloved South Richmond design and gift shop, she was often pulled into the design studio to assist the interior designers with color and pattern selections. Jennifer has a natural eye for color and balance, which the designers recognized and helped foster.
After over a decade in interior design, Jennifer was asked to come on staff at a local Richmond kitchen design and appliance company. Looking forward to a new challenge, Jennifer gladly accepted the opportunity. After many months of learning the ins and outs of kitchen design, Jennifer started working directly with homeowners and was quickly recognized in a Home Section cover page article in the Richmond Times Dispatch. Jennifer continued honing her design knowledge and by the end of 2006, Jennifer tested for and was awarded the prestigious Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) designation by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA).
Since then, Jennifer has served as a board member on both the Virginia State and National Board of Directors for NKBA. Most recently Jennifer has served, and continues to serve on the Central Virginia PRO (Professional Remodelers Organization) board, as well as the Executive Leadership Board of PRO Inc. Jennifer has been recognized with the Crystal Choice Award, multiple CoTY awards from NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry), and Remodeler of the Year awards from PRO. She has also been included in several magazine articles from R Home to Real Simple Magazine.
Jennifer continues learning and expanding her design skills to this day and continues to look for new challenges. In 2018, Jennifer branched out on her own and started what is now Virginia Design Group. Jennifer pictured a company that offered clients a flexible design experience. She recognized a need for design only services for clients who already had a contractor selected or wanted to have a plan to use to bid multiple contractors. Of course, there are still clients who want to work with the same company for the design and the build processes, which Jennifer and her team of project managers and skilled tradesmen can deliver. Virginia Design group offers both options, and more.
Jennifer sees Virginia Design Group growing to be a resource for homeowners and designers, as well. We look forward to Virginia Design Group growing to offer not only renovation and interior design to our clients, but growing to have a network of architectural designers, landscape designers, artists, and possibly even photography and wedding design. The sky is the limit!

I continue to find Jennifer outstanding in her field. She amazes me with her vision and knowledge.My first experience was a total renovation of my 1970’s kitchen – from floor to ceiling, new appliances, new counters, beautiful and appropriate cabinets.
We moved from kitchen to bathroom and minor projects I other rooms. Always and eye to quality, but with consideration of cost. All of her support people were professional and courteous.
As of now, we are just completing remodel of my sunroom, again same professional expertise, giving me just what I envisioned. It is beautiful!!!

Words can’t describe how happy I am with both the process and the outcome of my kitchen renovation with Jennifer a few years ago. She listened (not a typical trait for designers in my opinion) to my ideas and added her amazing twist on everything! She gave me everything I wanted in my farmhouse style kitchen and more! She blended two tile styles to create a masterpiece backsplash, helped create a one of a kind copper hood for my oven and a one of a kind copper/metal windmill fan for my adjacent den. She added hand crafted genuine barn board accents, complementing paint colors, state of the art lighting and appliances! She thought of things I didn’t know existed. What an eye for detail and creative/unique design she has. Most noteworthy – a pleasure to be with. The contractors admired and appreciated her even as she required the best! She ALWAYS has a “can do” attitude which makes her fun to work with! While renovating the kitchen, the changes impacted adjacent rooms so I’d steal Jennifer’s creative ideas to make my own decorating changes to these rooms too. With the guidance of Jennifer, we completed a master bath remodel to include moving the shower, replacing large box jacuzzi, lowering the vaulted ceiling, replacing cabinets, etc. Jennifer did an outstanding job from the design to tile recommendation, to colors, cabinets and light fixtures. She understood our vision and made it even better! The extra items like heated floor, light above toilet paper roll and drawer for electric hair items made the remodel extra special.
